What To Do… if you find a pet
When you find an animal that may be someone’s pet, please be empathetic and act the way you would want someone to if they found your lost pet.
Please do not assume that the owners are neglectful or mean. It might not be their fault the animal got lost. Do not decide that they are not worth looking for, or that the pet is better off without them. The animal you found may belong to a family that is heartbroken over the loss of their beloved pet. Please do not decide to just keep the pet yourself or rehome it without looking for the original owners.
Take the animal to the local veterinary clinic
The vet should be able to scan the pet for a microchip, if there is one, for FREE
